Having children changes a woman’s body dramatically. After my best friend had her first adorable boy, she went up a shoe size and could no longer fit into her shoes. Her misfortune was my boon since she gifted me her entire old shoe collection.
While I was ecstatic with all this new fashionable footwear, it was more than evident that my now large shoe pile was not exactly organized. I spent a number of mornings digging for a pair of shoes I knew was in the pile somewhere. The disorderly madness had to stop. I decided to make a shoe rack out of cardboard.
This is the box to the hot water tank we installed about two years ago. I would not let Mel, my husband, throw it out because it was such quality cardboard. . . Some of you may understand what I mean.
I cut the cardboard into inch-and-a-half strips and taped four layers of strips together for strength; creating all the boards I would need to construct the project
I paper mached around these boards both to give them more strength and to hide the edges of the cardboard.
Then all the boards got painted. (Sunshine is adorable even when she does wrong.)
Then everything got hot glued together. It’s been two weeks and it hasn’t fallen. Yeah organization!
