Vispiaggio is Melton’s latest creation. This massive sculpture consists of old Vespa and Piaggio scooter parts. A scooter seat forms the nose. Tires become eyeballs and fenders become eyelids. A display council makes an upper lip. Mel can name all the parts and he even explained to me how the fender on the left came from a 1950s model while the fender on the right is more 1960s. That’s what makes Mel’s art great. It teaches me stuff.
